raised attic boarding with insulation installed

How can I regulate my attic temperature?

Levelling your attic temperature can not only present benefits in terms of your storage possibilities but also introduces airflow and lower energy bills.

Why control your attic temperature?

Controlling your attic temperature can have a larger impact on your home than some may initially realise. The attic is a primary area for heat loss around the home which in turn raises the amount you’re paying for energy bills. By controlling the attic temperature, you’re creating a fresh environment for heat loss control and storage capabilities whilst protecting the attic insulation in the process.

The attic boarding process

Our raised attic boarding solution, LoftZone StoreFloor, creates a perfect base for increased levels of sustainability and energy-saving benefits

Ahead of ordering the hardware and equipment you need, you’ll first need to evaluate whether you need our normal range of StoreFloor products or if you require the Compact StoreFloor version. Both are equipped to carry out the same number of benefits but one is a bit more forgiving on the headroom if you have a lower-pitch roof style.

Once you’ve identified the number of attic boards and hardware you’ll require, the process of installation is quite a bit simpler than many may realise. In the past, we’ve had many customers tell us how simple the instructions make the process. These are included when ordering one of our StoreFloor or StoreFloor Compact kits.

If you would prefer for a professional to handle the job, we also have a wide range of highly-trained installers who have completed, combined, tens of thousands of attic boarding installations with us.

Introducing a healthy airflow

When referring to airflow, we primarily mean the gap between the attic boards and the insulation itself. By having this space, the air can move over the top of the insulation which is more efficient in attic temperature regulation.

Installing attic boards directly on top of the insulation, which could cause damage to the insulation itself and the roof structure, is highly inefficient as it will likely cause problems with dampness and heat patches. This is where attic temperature impurities originate and ideally need to be controlled – this is especially important during the high heat of Summer and the lower-temperatures of Winter.

The benefits of attic temperature control

As we’ve touched upon, there are many benefits when controlling the attic temperature.

Home value increases

When boarding your attic space, and in turn, controlling the attic temperature, this would be considered to be a huge positive when looking to sell your home. Many who look for a new home consider a usable attic space to be an important area and in some cases, a must-needed feature for storage reasons. The attic temperature benefits and levelled heating bills sit alongside as additional positives.

Reduced energy bills

Almost 80% of the energy used within the home is used for heating and hot water. This is why it is a recognised area for optimisation in order to lower the bills you’re having to pay.

In previous research of ours, we found out that 25% of British homeowners rate their homes as having low heat retention.

Boarding your attic, optimising airflow and regulating attic temperatures all contribute greatly to heat loss and reduced energy bills.
